What changed about the Volvo S60 for 2022?

2022 has brought some changes to the Volvo S60, notably under the hood. This is not the only changes, however, since the exterior and the interior have also received a bit of attention from the designers.

The cosmetic changes

The 2022 Volvo S60 shows a modernised appearance due to its revised taillamps and exhaust tips, as well as the new wheels and paint colours that have been added to the catalogue. Inside, the appearance stays mostly the same but three new features are available. An air purifier can be added to the automatic climate control system when the Advanced package is ordered and a wireless phone charger becomes standard for most models in order to improve convenience. Finally, the leather on the steering wheel has been replaced by a more sustainable material and the leather wrapped key-fob is not an option anymore.

A hybrid powertrain for everyone

The biggest news in the case of the 2022 Volvo S60 is that all of its models have now become hybrid vehicles. This move is in keeping with Volvo’s goal of having half of the cars its sells be fully electric by 2025. The new B5 standard powertrain offers a better fuel economy than the outgoing T5 and its power output is still very similar, with 247 horses. The small electric motor and 48-volt battery help the gasoline engine accelerate and maintain the desired speed without requiring more fuel to burn.

A more advanced and impressive plug-in hybrid

The 2022 Volvo S60 equipped with the available T8 Recharge plug-in hybrid powertrain sees a number of improvements, chiefly a new and larger battery and a more powerful rear axle electric motor. By giving more electric capacity to the S60, Volvo have improved its range to 66 kilometers on electricity alone. This is enough for most drivers to complete their daily commute without using fuel at all, but even if the trip is a bit longer, there is no need to alarmed, since the gasoline engine starts up when the battery is depleted and ensures you will never get stuck somewhere without a charge.
