The Technologies that improve the Fuel Economy of the Volvo XC60

The Volvo XC60 is a very efficient premium SUV that is equipped with many technologies that make it a great choice for your next vehicle.

The hybrid powertrains

Every new Volvo XC60 is equipped with a hybrid powertrain, with a choice between two power levels. The B5 is the standard powertrain and it is composed of a turbocharged 2.0L engine and a small electric motor. This allows it to deliver 247 horsepower and a surprising fuel economy, since the electric motor provides assistance to the gasoline engine in situations such as in heavy traffic or under acceleration. This translates in consumptions figures as low as 8.1 L/100 km on the highway. If you want more power from your XC60, the available B6 powertrain adds a supercharger to the gasoline engine to boost the total output up to 295 horsepower, which is enough to lower the 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time down to 6.2 seconds. This increase in performance only has a minimal impact on efficiency, since the highway consumption figure for the B6 Momentum version is 8.7 L/100 km.

The drive modes

The Volvo XC60 benefits from the drive mode selection system which allows you to choose between different parameter configurations in order to better suit your driving style or the current driving conditions. When you select Eco mode, the settings for the engine, the transmission and the accelerator pedal are changed in order to make it easier to drive efficiently by using as little fuel as possible and by making the hybrid system more aggressive in its interventions. The auto start/stop feature is also useful to minimise the gasoline wasted when the vehicle is stopped for more than a few seconds, such as waiting at a red light. Due to the presence of the electric motor, this system doesn’t incur the vibrations and the delay that are often caused by similar systems.
