The 2022 Volvo XC40 is luxury in a small format

Volvo vehicles are known for their comfort, performance, handling, and safety. Its sport utility vehicle lineup is particularly impressive, featuring a range of models that deliver everything we expect from a premium sport utility vehicle with added style, efficient, and advanced technology. The 2022 Volvo XC40 is the perfect example of that.

A Luxury Entry-Level SUV

The new XC40 introduced nearly four years ago is a luxury sport utility vehicle that sits under the XC60 and the XC90 in the Volvo range. Despite its position within the Volvo lineup and its affordable starting price, it certainly doesn’t feel like the entry-level Volvo offering. It has a very upscale interior and luxurious features throughout as well as an impressive level of comfort and luxury on the road. It is also quiet and very spacious.

The interior provides ample rear leg and head room as well as over 400 litres of total cargo space with all seats in place. That makes the XC40 one of the most spacious and versatile SUVs you can buy in its segment.

The 2022 Volvo XC40 also comes with advanced safety technologies. It includes automatic braking for vehicles, pedestrians, and bicycles, and it can even recognize large animals on the road and break for them too.  The Volvo XC40 can also automatically brake for oncoming vehicles that deviate from their lane. Some of the technologies found in the XC40 are exclusive to it and won’t be found elsewhere in the segment.

Under the hood, the XC40 gets a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder engine that develops 248 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque in most versions. This engine is more powerful than any other base engine of any XC40 rival and you'll notice it on the road. The XC40 has impressive accelerations (0-100 km/h in just 6.4 seconds) and quick passing power, giving you more confidence. It is also very agile and nimble, making it the perfect luxury SUV for the urban environment.

The other engine option is the T4 powertrain with 187 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. This engine is plenty powerful for the needs of most buyers while also averaging just 7.6 litres per 100 kilometres on the highway. There’s also the impressive fully electric version, the XC40 Recharge, which delivers 358 kilometres of range, but we will cover that model in another article.
